Spotlight Time with Meena

Hey everyone! I can’t believe it’s already been three weeks since I joined the Youth Green Squad! These past three weeks have been full of adventures and I’m sure there’s more to come in the upcoming weeks! I’m really enjoying my summer at Greenest City and I’ve gained a lot of employment related skills and hands-on work experience! This week I had the opportunity to interview Meena who works at Parkdale Neighbourhood Church (PNC). For those who aren’t familiar with PNC, it is the church located right across from the Masaryk Cowan Community Centre and in addition, is also a partner of Greenest City.

In the interview, I learned that Meena was once a Youth Green Squad member too and that that’s how she was introduced to her current job at PNC. As a Youth Green Squad member, she had the chance to work with people at PNC and learn about the opportunities available. At PNC, Meena cooks and works with people with mental disabilities, she says she enjoys working with people from the Parkdale community and the experience that comes along with it. She feels that people with mental disabilities are often misjudged by first impressions and that they are just like you and me when you take the time to get to know them. In my opinion, Meena is very enthusiastic about what she does at PNC!

Meena’s favourite food is homemade cheese pizza made from local fresh ingredients. Mmmmmmm, that sounds delicious. Her tip for growing plants and vegetables is to avoid watering in the middle of the day when the weather is really hot. She says that this will bake your plants! The best time to water would be early in the morning or late at night and if you must water in the afternoon try to do it after three o’clock! That’s it for this week folks, look forward to my blog next week!
